Tumbling type in Hackney

I shot the serif (caption © Sion Whellens)

We spotted this gem on Hackney Road, London this afternoon. It looks like the aftermath of a drunken typographic bar–room brawl between Helvetica, kerning and leading, with the bigger, uppercase emerging victorious. At least the CCTV camera was around to keep us all safe by ensuring that whichever one started it will be brought to book… Not sure why the proprietor hasn’t tidied this up (David Carson fan? Scared of heights?) but we’re glad they haven’t.

This is right opposite Calverts’ place. We’ve been watvching this piece of environmental entropy for months, with much delight. A case of ‘I shot the sans serif?’

Zerofee is an ethical design agency, and this is our blog. We create identity and design for print and digital media, but not for irresponsible brands or companies. Why Zerofee? Alongside commercial work, we constantly donate design to financially–challenged charities and good causes.
